“Mo-Rose” Collection by Zahra Holm
“I created this collection during the second lockdown in Paris when everything was (and still is from time to time) so gloomy.
Painting is for me the reflection of my feelings and moods, this collection is all about that.
The title Mo-Rose comes from the French word « morose » which means gloomy and I tried to be optimistic instead by using colours that make me feel good, alive and reassured.
Unintentionally, I had created these series with common tones and the guideline is pink, « rose » in French.
The result of it is a series of abstract shapes that show the face of emotion and how the whole body is expressing itself.”

«Creé esta colección durante el segundo confinamiento en Paris, cuando todo parecía (y lo sigue haciendo de vez en cuando) tan sombrío.
La pintura para mí es el reflejo de mis sentimientos y estados de ánimo, y esta colección trata de eso.
El título “Mo-Rose” proviene de la palabra francesa morose, que significa melancólico, sombrío. En su lugar, traté de ser optimista utilizando colores que hacen sentir bien, te hacen sentir vivo y tranquilo. Sin querer, terminé creando esta serie con tonos comunes cuyo hilo conductor era el color rosa, rose en francés.
El resultado es una serie de formas abstractas que ponen rostro a la emoción y la expresión del cuerpo.»

Q&A
Q1. Do you remember the reason why you started painting?
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, at a very young age. Painting came later in my life.
At first it was for fun, I was doing it now and then. It really started in 2015 in a moment where I felt bored and frustrated in my life. I felt the urge of doing absolutely what I wanted, alone. I was in search of freedom in my art so I started experimenting painting.
The more I painted, the more it became a need. I found it liberating to live in the moment, escaping from reality. Time stops when I paint, still today and hopefully it will always do. The best feeling ever.
Q2. What would be the concept that links all your creations?
That maybe sounds too obvious: me. Because the main theme that’s always present is the body, the female body.
The theme is of course always evolving and relates to other topics sometimes thought that same theme. They are all very personal and translate my emotions through body language.
The other thing would be colours. It’s a very important part of my work. All my creations are always very colourful.

P1. ¿Recuerdas por qué empezaste a dedicarte a la pintura?
He dibujado desde que tengo memoria, desde que era muy pequeña. La pintura vino después.
Al principio era por diversión, lo hacía a veces. Empecé de verdad en 2015 en un momento en el que me sentía aburrida y frustrada con mi vida. Sentí la urgencia de hacer tan solo lo que quería de verdad. Iba en busca de libertad creativa y empecé a experimentar con la pintura.
Cuanto más pintaba más se convertía en una necesidad. Encontraba liberador vivir en el momento, escapar de la realidad. El tiempo se detiene cuando pinto, espero que siempre sea así. Es la mejor sensación del mundo.
P2. ¿Cuál es el concepto que une todas tus creaciones?
Puede que suene muy obvio, pero soy yo. Porque el tema principal que siempre está presente es el cuerpo, el cuerpo femenino.
El concepto, por supuesto, siempre evoluciona y se relaciona con otros de manera muy personal. Traduzco mis emociones mediante el lenguaje del cuerpo.
El otro serían los colores. Es una parte muy importante de mi trabajo. Todas mis creaciones están siempre llenas de color.
